The Weirdest Weather Map of 2013

The weirdest weather map of 2013.

There is no doubt that 2013 brought a fair share of weird weather experiences, but what gripped North America in the days up to Christmas has to contend for weirdest weather of 2013.

While parts of the US east coast were enjoying unseasonally warm temperatures, with New York hitting around 21 degrees C and in Savannah, Georgia the thermometer reached an all time December high of 28 C, further north the curve drastically broke, with Toronto in Canada experiencing an ice storm.

The Toronto Ice Storm.

The ice storm is one the worst weather events Toronto has ever seen, and hitting during the busy Christmas period meant that it could not have come at a worse time, as travel was severely disrupted and 300,000 people were left without power.

Temperatures as low as -15 C were recorded, with thick sheets of ice measuring 10-30mm that had built up between trees during the storm. This then fell onto buildings and infrastructure with some trees falling down and causing widespread damage.

One of many threes that had come down during the Toronto Ice Storm.

For a country that’s very used and accustomed to extreme winter weather events, this was one Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford, called one of the worst the city has ever seen.
