An Al Jazeera America documentary premiering in the US tomorrow will highlight the safety issues for the workers at the Bakken Shale formation located in North Dakota, US.
North Dakota is now producing more than a million barrels of oil a day. Ten years ago there were fewer than 200 oil-producing wells in the Bakken. Now there are more than 8,000.
The programme will say that the frantic pace of drilling are putting oil workers at risk.
Bakken Shale got the highest workers fatalities in the US. The programme which has been produced in the ‘Fault Lines’ series will investigate why so many people are dying, and if in the desire to extract more oil and faster, safety issues has been overlooked.
The program will air 18:00 ET / 21:00 CT US time.
