The Australian government recently breathed a huge sigh of relief as UNESCO confirmed they would not list the Great Barrier Reef as threatened.
The decision came after the government had lobbied UNESCO hard to retain the reefs status. Scientists and NGOs have long warned that the effects of climate change and coal expansion around the reef herald a dire future for what is Australia’s biggest tourist attraction.
Above Waleed Aly from the Australian TV show ‘The Project’ mocks Australia’s environmental policy and explains why we should be very worried about the future for the reef unless dramatic action is taken.
